Juniors Program

The North Balwyn Cricket Club Junior Program offers a welcoming and inclusive environment for boys and girls of all abilities to learn and enjoy cricket. From beginners to experienced players, the program focuses on age-appropriate skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship, supported by experienced coaches and dedicated volunteers in a fun, positive setting.

Beyond cricket skills, the junior program emphasises confidence, respect, and community. With a strong family culture and clear development pathways, North Balwyn Cricket Club supports young players to progress at their own pace, whether they are playing for fun or aspiring to competitive cricket.

Juniors - FAQs

Our junior program is open to boys and girls from approximately 5 to 17 years of age, with age groups aligned to Cricket Victoria and local association guidelines.

No experience is required. We welcome complete beginners through to experienced players, with coaching and teams structured to suit different skill levels.

We offer age-appropriate formats including Woolworths Cricket Blaster, modified cricket, and hard-ball cricket, depending on the player’s age and development stage.

The junior cricket season typically runs from October through March, including training sessions during the week and matches on weekends and Wednesdays for girls.

Training and home matches are held at Macleay Park North Balwyn. Away matches are played against other local clubs within our competition.

Most teams train once per week, with matches played on Wednesday for girls teams, Friday for U14s and U16s, Saturday for U12s, and Sunday for U10s.

North Balwyn Cricket Club prides ourselves on having our junior teams coached by experienced and qualified senior player coaches, all focused on skill development, enjoyment, and sportsmanship.

Basic equipment is available for younger age groups. Players will eventually need their own bat, pads, gloves, protectors and helmet, and we’re happy to provide guidance on what’s required and where to buy.

Registration fees vary by age group and include association fees, insurance, and club costs. Fee details are published before each season. See registration page for more information.

We do our best to accommodate friend requests when forming teams, while still ensuring balanced teams and appropriate skill development.

Absolutely. We actively encourage girls’ participation and offer mixed and girls-only pathways depending on age and numbers.

Our junior program focuses on fun, skill development, teamwork, respect, and a lifelong love of cricket, while also providing pathways for more competitive play.
